Agentic AI, built to rely on.

For 36 years I've invented things that didn't exist, some of which, like Windows Automatic Update, now run on nearly every PC on the planet. Today I help organizations turn agentic AI into infrastructure a business can depend on, and get the architecture underneath it right.

What I do

Two kinds of work, one standard: it has to hold up in production.

AI-enabled process automation

Agentic workflows on Anthropic's Claude that take over document-heavy work: proposals, reconciliations, reporting, correspondence. Built as custom Skills and MCP servers, with Claude Desktop as the interface your staff already know how to use.

  • Every skill that produces output ships with a companion verification skill, so nothing reaches a client unchecked.
  • Built on your own archive: approved and rejected cases, your templates, and the tone and terminology of your documents.
  • Measured against the manual process it replaces, in hours and in error rate.

Platform and software architecture

Cloud-native systems, API-first design and the integration work that decides whether AI is useful inside a real business or a demo that never ships.

  • Target architecture and migration roadmaps away from legacy platforms.
  • Healthcare interoperability as a first-class capability: HL7 FHIR, X12 EDI (837/835/270/271).
  • Architecture governance for large engineering organizations: standards, reviews, mentoring.

Track record

A career of first-of-their-kind systems.

Seven US patents assigned across operating systems, networking, web publishing and hospitality technology; two more applications pending from Oracle (filed 2025).

  1. 1990–2001
    Microsoft

Invented Windows Automatic Update and BITS, the background transfer technology that still quietly updates billions of machines (US 7,437,428; US 7,139,815). Shipped Windows 3.1, the NT kernel resource loader, the Windows 98 out-of-box experience and the first Java VM to run on 16-bit Windows.

  2. 2001–2002
    Askme.com

Chief Search Architect. Designed the inference engine that moved the company from an ad-driven model to an enterprise knowledge-management platform.

  3. 2002–2009
    Serriform → Ascentium

Founded an enterprise software consultancy, grew it to twenty people and clients including Microsoft and Nordstrom, sold it, and ran technology delivery for the acquirer as CTO and managing partner.

  4. 2011–2013
    Prosodic

CTO of the first platform to offer predictive intelligence on social media content; patent on scheduled publishing workflows.

  5. 2013–2015
    Agilysys

VP, Enterprise Software Architect for hospitality systems; two patents in guest-facing and folio technology.

  6. 2015–2023
    Amazon · WeWork · Flexport

Principal Engineer across Amazon Retail Media and Delivery Technologies; Fellow Engineer leading Real Estate Technology at WeWork; Chief Enterprise Software Architect at Flexport.

  7. 2023–2026
    Oracle Health and AI

Led architecture for the Consumer and Revenue Cycle organizations, about 1,300 engineers, reporting to the SVP: cloud-first target architecture, FHIR and X12 as platform capabilities, AI in clinical and revenue-cycle workflows.

  8. 2026–
    Muti Advisory Services

Independent practice. The technology that has just become real is agentic AI; the job is the same as it was in 1990.

Current engagement

What this looks like in practice.

An Italian consultancy in grant financing with a portfolio of around 300 client companies. Their work is document-heavy by nature: funding applications, technical reports, expense reconciliations against bank statements and invoices.

We are building a set of Claude skills that draft grant applications from the firm's own history of approved and rejected submissions, reconcile project expenses into the required reporting format, and run a weekly automated scan of new funding calls matched against the client base. Each producing skill has a checking skill behind it. The firm's partners use it through Claude Desktop; nothing new to learn.

About

Alessandro Muti

I'm a software architect and inventor. I started at Microsoft in 1990 on Windows 3.1 and left eleven years later having built the update infrastructure the company still runs on. Since then I have alternated between founding and leading companies and holding principal and chief-architect roles at some of the largest engineering organizations in the world.

What I bring to a client is the pattern underneath all of that: recognizing when a new technology has crossed from promising to dependable, and knowing how to build the plumbing that lets a business lean on it. In 1998 that was background file transfer. In 2026 it is agents that do real work.

I work in English and Italian, from Florida, with clients in the United States and Europe. Engagements are by referral; the best first step is a conversation about the process your team wishes it didn't have to do by hand.
